1. Eligible Participants
Asian American students who are currently enrolled in a high school in the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Solano, Sonoma, San Mateo and Santa Clara. Asian American is defined as individuals of East Asian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian origin. Each participant is only allowed to submit one video.
2. Guidelines and Format of the Video
• Content of the video – Actions people can take to address an environmental issue impacting the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Solano, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties). The scope of the issue can be at the regional, city or local/neighborhood level.
• The maximum length of the video is 3 minutes; the file shall be in the form of AVI, MP4, or MPG and preferably within 200 MB in size.
- The ideal video quality is 1920 x 1080p.
- If you use content made by another person, you must provide written permission via Dropbox from the copyright holder granting the use of his or her materials. On the other hand, there are websites offering copyright free or royalty free music (For instance, YouTube offers copyright free music in its Audio Library), videos, and pictures you can use because the artists have granted permissions.
- You must specify in your video description any media (e.g. music, images, videos) that is not your own creation and give the copyright holders credit.
- Video contest participants or their parents/guardians are fully responsible for copyright liability or obligation. No liability or obligation is assumed by CAEPA in connection with the video contest.
- By submitting the video for this contest, participants or their parents/guardians agree to give permission to CAEPA to share the videos with its members and the general public for public education and CAEPA scholarship program promotion purposes.
3. Application & Important Dates
• Please post the video on YouTube, submit the video, the signed Contest Entry Form and written permissions to use copyrighted materials (if applicable) to CAEPA via Dropbox by March 31, 2021.
- When the participant or parent/guardian is ready to sign the Contest Entry Form, please click the green “Show Signature Page” on the top left of the form, sign, click “Finish signing”, “Confirm”, “1. Copy”, “2. Return to Form”, paste in the Signature block, then “Submit”.
- CAEPA Review Committee will announce the contest results by April 30, 2021.
- Winning videos will be shown and the winning participants might be invited to attend the CAEPA 2021 Annual Meeting in late spring.
4. Review of Entries & Judging Criteria
The CAEPA Review Committee will select the winning videos based on the following criteria:
- Ability to catch the viewer’s attention
- Illustration of the issue, which may include the use of data, graphics, historical summaries, community feedback and other forms of information
- Content accuracy, clarity, creativity, and persuasiveness
- The ability to convey an effective and positive message to the viewers
- Quality of visual and audio effects
- Reference and copyrighted materials are fully and clearly shown in the video description
5. Scholarship Awards
- All participants will receive official certificates for participation
- Winning participants will receive scholarship awards
First Place – $1,000 scholarship
Second Place – $600 scholarship
Third Place – $300 scholarship
- CAEPA reserves the right to not issue a scholarship if the Review Committee deems none of the entries received meets the contest requirements.

The Chinese American Environmental Professionals Association (CAEPA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the professional development of its members. CAEPA fosters the exchange of knowledge in the environmental field. Programs include technical presentations, field trips, international liaisons and conferences. CAEPA promotes environmental education within the Asian American student community. In 1999, CAEPA initiated a scholarship award for Asian American high school students. The scholarship program goals are to 1) recognize outstanding youth leadership, 2) encourage career exploration in the environmental fields, and 3) facilitate public education.
