General Statement: Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory) (Branch Chief) in the Berkeley Branch of the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program (SMRP), the Unit Chief supervises and directs the work of project managers of various engineering and scientific disciplines. The Unit Chief ensures that SMRP goals and objectives are met and that decisions are technically sound, innovative, consistent with DTSC goals and procedures, and protective of public health and the environment.
What You'll Do
- Supervise staff and analyze sites to ensure that projects are managed in an efficient and administratively sound manner
- In conjunction with DTSC staff and management, develop and manage Annual Work Plan commitments and ensure that staff implement necessary project management activities
- Develop and update work plans, schedules, commitments, and monitors program activities, in conjunction with the Branch Chief to ensure that program performance goals, performance measures, and schedules are met
- Provide direction to project managers in establishing and maintaining an enforceable position for each responsible party lead site
What We Look For
- A proven track record of successfully leading and mentoring staff
- Experience in assessing and tracking staff performance measures
- Application of geological principles in CERCLA and/or RCRA corrective action investigations
- Experience in public outreach
- It is preferrable that the candidate maintains a California license in Geology
